Chair Opal Jones opened the September legislative session and directed the clerk to introduce a long series of appointment and reappointment resolutions for advisory boards and commissions across Howard County.
The clerk read names and positions for appointees to bodies including the Opioid Restitution Fund Commission, Board of Social Services, Housing Commission and multiple Interfaith Advisory Commission appointees. The clerk also read a slate of nominees for the "smart strategic moratorium for assessing responsible technology/data center task force," naming appointees both for county-executive slots and for each councilmatic district. "Council resolution 1 44 20 26, a resolution confirming the appointment of Jennifer Jones to the smart strategic moratorium for assessing responsible technology data center task force as an appointee for the county executive," the clerk read.
During final consideration, Chair Jones moved to approve a grouped set of appointment resolutions (108–119-2026). The motion was seconded, the clerk called the roll, and each member—Chair Jones, Young, Rigby, Walsh and Youngman—voted yes, approving the listed appointments unanimously. The approvals conclude the council's confirmation of the listed nominees; specific start dates, terms and implementation steps were not specified during the session.
