Romy Arini, principal of Challenger K-8, told the Hernando County School Board on Sept. 8 that the school is focused on leadership and student success as part of its "Leader in Me" work. Arini introduced a student leader and described an across-the-board push for academic growth and extracurricular participation.
Alice, a member of Challenger K-8's student lighthouse team, told the board the school earned a Grade A after growing more than 45 points on its school report card. "We are proud to be a Grade A school again," Alice said, and she reported that the school met its math growth target (noting a 14-point gain in math) and recorded a 4‑point gain in ELA growth for the year. She also listed clubs and activities that support student engagement — from robotics to band — and noted the school's recent athletics success, saying Challenger teams were last year's Hernando County champions in several sports.
The spotlight portion of the meeting closed with the board and audience congratulating students and staff. The presentation was offered as part of a recurring district practice to highlight school achievement and student leadership.
