Aaron Koning, quality director for CBI Forensic Services, presented an evaluation of CaseGuard, a document redaction application under review for use in publishing QA workflows and other materials that may contain personally identifiable or CJIS‑protected information.
Koning emphasized the department has not deployed the software and that any automated redaction would be followed by comprehensive human review to ensure accuracy. He said CaseGuard offers an automated first pass recognizing more than 30 PII categories (and complex patterns such as lab and agency case numbers), runs fully locally with no external server processing, and could save an estimated ~20 labor hours per month while helping process about 75 workflows each month. The monthly cost described was about $280 with no long‑term contract required.
Committee members asked how involved IT/security were in evaluation; Koning said IT participated closely in selection and the tool was vetted for security. CDPS expects to complete evaluation and, if successful and staffing is in place for manual review, to go live early in 2027.
