The Hernando School Board adopted a final millage rate of 6.265 for fiscal year 2026–27 after a public hearing and a presentation from the district’s finance leaders.
Joyce McIntyre, the district chief financial officer, told the board the rate combines a required local effort (RLE) of 3.009, a prior‑period adjustment of 0.008, discretionary operating millage of 0.748, capital outlay of 1.500 and a voted operating millage of 1.000. “Together, these rates result in a total proposed millage rate of 6.265,” McIntyre said. She told the board the proposed rates are 22% below the rolled‑back rate.
McIntyre said anticipated tax proceeds based on the tax roll would be about $130,900,000—roughly $5.2 million more than last year—and reminded the board that state FEFP calculations assume the district collects 96% of levied school taxes. Board Chair called for a motion and the board adopted the final millage, 5–0.
Why it matters: The millage rate sets the local ad valorem tax level that appears on property tax bills and helps determine the district’s share of state funding. McIntyre emphasized the role of the RLE in securing the state allocation that supports the adopted budget.
