Board approves inspections and engineering steps after Bridge 33 damage; plans for Bridge 37 replacement estimate $257,120

The highway department reported that equipment tracks from a crane damaged Bridge 33 guardrail; the department said the responsible contractor (Leeward) would reimburse repair costs. Staff recommended a task order with Butler Fairman not to exceed $20,000 to complete a damage inspection and prepare repair specifications so the county can solicit quotes.

"I have a small task order from Butler Fairman, not to exceed $20,000 for them to be able to do the scope of work," the highway official said, explaining the steps necessary to move toward repair. Commissioners moved to proceed with corrective action for the accident and the motion passed.

Separately, the highway official presented an SJCA engineering estimate of $257,120 to replace two pipes at Bridge 37 with a precast, three-sided concrete box. Staff said the work would likely occur over multiple years and that the county intends to pursue Community Crossing funding to cover the cost in a later funding cycle. The commissioners authorized moving ahead with planning for Bridge 37 and to seek appropriate funding when available.
