Council proclaims Doctor Catherine Flores Day, highlights Doctors Academy work

At the start of the meeting council members presented a proclamation honoring Dr. Catherine Flores for her decades of community medical service, bilingual practice and mentoring programs that encourage Central Valley youth into health careers. Vice President Maxwell and Council President Esparza thanked Dr. Flores; she described returning to Fresno to address inequities in health access and emphasized the team behind her work.

"This is not about me. This is really about the team," Dr. Catherine Flores (S9) said after the council read the proclamation and praised the Doctors Academy partnership with Fresno State and local school leaders. The proclamation sets Thursday, Sept. 3, 2026 as Doctor Catherine Flores Day in the City of Fresno and highlights her teaching roles with UCSF and work on workforce policy commissions.
