Committee members spent substantial time debating the label and content for the historic preservation section of the draft CPA plan. Some members argued the word "resources" is preferable because it covers the town’s existing historic assets without implying the committee will be obligated to fund privately owned properties. As one member said, "The word resources is used. And that reason is historical resources the town already has. We can't create new resources." (paraphrased from discussion).
The group also discussed whether to include a list of named historic properties pulled from the master plan. Multiple members warned that listing specific private properties could discourage applicants or be interpreted as a funding commitment. Chair Robert Thurin moved to delete the specific-project listing from the priorities; the motion was seconded and carried on a roll-call vote. The committee agreed to keep the historic-section language general and to consult with the historic-district commission as appropriate when specific projects come forward.
