Raya warns criminals and foreign actors are using AI for child exploitation, deepfakes and election influence

Deputy Director Raya said the bureau sees AI widely adopted by criminal actors, spanning child exploitation, deepfakes, automated bots and political influence campaigns. "Everybody, every criminal violation that we work uses AI in some sort of in some sort of capacity to forward whatever their... illicit activity is," he said.

Raya also pointed to foreign-state propaganda and election influence risks, specifically citing examples attributed in public reporting to Iranian state media. He advised the public to be skeptical of content they encounter online and urged continued education and outreach through local police and private-sector coordinators.
