City public works staff told the Crown Point Board of Public Works and Safety on Sept. 4 that construction on the downtown interceptor at State Road 55 will proceed with a short closure and staged restoration.
Al walked the board through a construction schedule the contractor provided, saying crews plan to shut the roadway station down on the Tuesday after Labor Day to cut casing pipe, rebuild a manhole and backfill, with the intent to restore flow within an eight‑hour window. "Right now, the barrier was scheduled to be removed on September 30," Al said. He added that crews expect to complete minor corrective paving the week afterwards.
Board members asked whether traffic barriers and detours would remain in place as the work advanced; Al said the schedule shows step‑by‑step tasks and that the contractor expects to perform restorations by month end. Staff also noted that road‑closure updates are published in the packet for public reference.
The schedule is part of ongoing downtown utility improvements; staff said they will continue to brief the board as milestones and restorations occur.
