Jag, the town's water superintendent, told the board he and his staff have focused on implementing GIS technology for the distribution system, accelerating meter replacements, and prioritizing valve exercising and treatment-plant maintenance since taking the job 4.5 months ago.
"The employees at the water department have already mapped out over 36 miles of distribution lines, 370 fire hydrants, [and] 452 valves in the last 4.5 months," Jag said. He reported the department replaced 236 water meters during that period, including completing work in the Cherry Hill Water District, the Spring Lake Water District, and beginning in the Housen Park Water District. Jag also outlined targeted preventive maintenance—replacing zinc-coated bolts with stainless steel on selected Kennedy valves to reduce future break risk—and work on hydrants and mixers at towers.
Board members thanked Jag and his crew and noted interdepartmental assistance from highway and sewer staff on those projects.
