Dr. Sian Proctor, who flew on the Inspiration4 mission, described how seeing Earth from orbit and the so-called "overview effect" shaped her commitment to the IFRC campaign. She framed her support as an outcome of both scientific training and an emotional experience that made her want to help communities on Earth.
"I went to space for 3 days and the experience changed me both mentally and emotionally," Proctor said. She described Earth as a "water world" and said the orbital perspective makes clear humanity's interconnection. Proctor also pointed to Inspiration4's fundraising impact: "We raised $250,000,000 to help end childhood cancer through that mission," and argued that commercial space participants can return with an intent to do humanitarian work.
Proctor said she lent her voice to the campaign because the treaty "ensures that we can save lives before, during, and after a crisis." Her remarks linked outreach and public engagement to policy advocacy on disaster risk reduction.
