County planning staff told the Planning & Community Resources Committee that the county's hazard mitigation plan has received state approval and has been forwarded to FEMA, and that the plan is on the agenda for local adoption.
"The hazard mitigation plan is done. It got approval from the state, so it has been sent to FEMA, but we are now at the point where we are able to adopt it," Heather, county planning staff, said. Staff emphasized the plan must be formally re-adopted in five years to remain current and eligible for funding and said departments will continue internal updates as needed.
Adoption of the plan would preserve the county's ability to apply for federal mitigation funds in future grant cycles. Committee members asked procedural questions about timing and reported that adoption is a housekeeping step required to maintain eligibility for certain state and federal programs. The committee did not debate changes to the plan during the meeting; staff noted they will bring the adoption resolution forward on the agenda for the committee's vote.
