Board approves audit extension, sidewalk contract change order and emergency salt purchase

The Village Board approved a set of infrastructure and procurement items, including a five-year extension with Sikich LLC for audit services, awarding the 2026 sidewalk improvements contract to Globe Construction and an additional change order to increase the project to $294,000, and an emergency salt purchase to respond to a regional procurement shortfall.

Director Eltik outlined the audit proposal, saying Sikich has audited village accounts since 2018 and the extension includes core audit services (village, library and TIF compliance) with modest annual increases. "We've been able to rotate partners within the firm to get fresh eyes while keeping the same mapping," Eltik said.

Director Reese reported Globe Construction’s corrected low bid of $241,674 (26.5% below engineer estimate) and explained a $52,326 change order would take advantage of favorable pricing to perform additional sidewalk repairs (total $294,000). The board approved both awards and the change order.

Reese also described efforts to address a regional salt shortage and requested authorization to buy 400 tons of road salt from Salt Exchange Inc. at $120 per ton (delivered), a total of $48,000; staff verified references and planned public communications. Trustees approved the salt purchase.
