Resident Karen Zeller serves notice, says city treated investigations differently

Karen Zeller, who identified herself on the record as a resident of 1132 MacGregor Lane, told the Gunter City Council she has received official records showing the Office of the Attorney General opened an active matter concerning allegations against her while a separate investigation into a council member was closed locally.

"The OAG records confirm that referral, identified me specifically as the mayor, and confirmed that the investigation remains active," Zeller said on the record and added she had received public‑information responses she said did not match the city's earlier explanations. She said the records show the Texas DPS had no responsive records for the other council member's matter.

Zeller said she repeatedly asked the city, the police chief and the city attorney for documentation to correct the record and that she had not received it; she told the council she was serving the city with a notice of claim and asked that the city preserve all relevant evidence and forward the claim to the Texas Municipal League.

The statement came during the public‑comment portion of the meeting. Council members did not announce an immediate response on the record; the item later moved on to other agenda business.
