The Germantown School District Ad Hoc Communications and Marketing Committee reviewed a proposed points-of-contact document on Sept. 1 designed to guide parents and community members on where to take questions and concerns.
Justin, who introduced the proposal, said the theme is to "start with the person closest to whatever issue it may be," citing classroom concerns as an example and recommending teacher → principal → district administration as the escalation path. Committee members said the approach should reduce unnecessary board-level contacts and allow administration to work issues through established procedures.
Members discussed practical examples and exceptions. The group noted transportation concerns may require contacting the contractor (the bus company Right Way) or the district transportation lead (referred to in the discussion as Britney), and that complex personnel issues (terminations/expulsions) carry legal and recusal implications if board members receive detailed case information.
The committee asked that the guide be easily discoverable on the district website and paired with an email notice to families at the start of school. "It's school season, and so people will have questions, will have concerns," the Chair said; Justin added the team would format and publish the guidance and work with administration to amplify it.
Next steps: communications staff will reformat the document for clarity (suggestion to move the first point of contact nearer the top), add brief notes about contracted services, and plan website prominence plus a targeted start‑of‑year message to families.
