County staff told the board that Motorola’s account team has started radius mapping for the new 9-1-1 system and that the mapping submission includes PSTAP boundaries that will be forwarded to Apple and Google to support handset-based location services and other functionality.
“That actually this is more than just mapping for dispatch. That is submitted to Apple and Google for verification, and it gets pushed into their geofencing for their 9 1 1 security software that runs in the background on your phone,” a staff member said, explaining that the data could enable features such as streaming video or file sharing from a caller’s device once providers and phone manufacturers support the features.
Staff cautioned that the county has policy decisions to make about which capabilities to enable and who can use them. The group also noted the need to coordinate GIS boundaries and mutual-aid zones carefully, as implementation steps could temporarily disrupt automated response workflows during an update.
Next steps include coordinating with Jeff (county GIS lead) and Motorola on a detailed implementation schedule and ensuring dispatch and mutual‑aid partners are aware of any short-term interruptions during mapping and zone redraws.
