Planning commission approves Planet Fitness at 8000 Plaza Blvd. with safety and signage conditions

The Mentor Planning Commission on Sept. 3 approved a conditional use permit allowing Planet Fitness to relocate into Unit A at 8000 Plaza Boulevard.

Applicant Anthony Silvis told the commission the franchise group employs "roughly anywhere from 15 to 20 people" and is moving from a Manor Mall location into the larger space. Kathy from administration told commissioners any exterior façade changes would need to return for a separate architectural review and presented recommended conditions designed to ensure the use fits the site.

Commissioners asked for clarity on square footage and safety measures. Silvis said the new location is roughly 25,000 square feet versus about 19,000 at the Manor Mall, and that employees are AED- and CPR-certified. "Every employee is AED and CPR certified as well," he said when asked about emergency preparedness. A motion to approve the CUP with the listed conditions passed on a roll-call vote.
