Board sets status hearing Oct. 1 for Nice and Easy Mini Mart exemption; ADA ramp or attorney documentation required

Owners and representatives of the Nice and Easy Mini Mart at 4508 Calumet Avenue appeared to seek an exemption that would allow them to remain open overnight. Staff told the board the prior exception—granted in February—was conditioned on completing an ADA access ramp and addressing a camera issue; the camera is fixed but the ramp remains incomplete.

Staff told the owners the exemption was a privilege under the city ordinance that allows conditions: "If you wanna stay open from midnight to 4AM, we need the ADA ramp built," a staff member said. Owner Jagjit Singh said he intends to rebuild the station within one to two years and that title issues make immediate work difficult; the board asked for either construction plans or attorney documentation clarifying why the ramp cannot be installed. The board set the item for a status update on 10/01/2026 and requested the owners provide plans or title-related documentation by that date.
