Josephine County sets public hearing for District Attorney fee changes tied to Evidence.com rollout

Matthew Eide, Finance Director, told the Josephine County Board of Commissioners on Aug. 28 that the District Attorney’s office is preparing to implement Evidence.com and that the county’s fee schedule needs to be updated to match current costs.

"The proposed changes are generally about 20 percent and are intended to bring charges in line with the current cost of service," Eide said. He also said obsolete video-cassette and audio-tape fees would be discontinued as records move to digital delivery. The Board directed Finance to proceed with public notices on Sept. 2 and Sept. 9 and scheduled a public hearing for Sept. 16, 2026. Finance indicated an anticipated effective date of Sept. 21 if the Board adopts the changes after the hearing.

The Board asked Finance to present a consistent countywide table showing current fees, proposed fees and percentage changes so future adjustments can be smaller and more predictable. Finance characterized the proposal as cost-recovery, not a revenue-generating measure, and the Board supported modernization while tabling Recreation and Fair fee changes for later review.
