The Rosebud County governing body approved Resolution 2026-26 on Sept. 3 to establish levies for fiscal year 2026–27. The motion passed following a presentation that explained how total mills are apportioned and which components remain pending until the Office of Public Instruction (OPI) provides school-related figures.
A committee member told the meeting that "our total mills are 133.32," and clarified that the countywide school numbers are not included because "we have not gotten those numbers from OPI yet"; those school figures will appear later on property tax bills and are set by OPI, the committee member said. The member added that the county is "levying the max we can on the general."
The committee member outlined how the general portion of 64.46 mills will be split among multiple funds — general, bridge, weed, fair, library, senior services, public safety and museum — and explained that cemetery mills are not being levied. "The cemetery, we do not levy any mills for the cemetery because the agreement we had with the city of Holzer, they took over Holzer Cemetery and we agreed we would not levy any mills," the committee member said, adding the county funded cemetery needs from other sources for at least two years under that arrangement.
Chair called the vote after discussion; recorded voices answered "Aye," and the levies resolution carried. The approved levies set tax rates for county-administered funds; school-related components will be added to tax bills when OPI releases their figures.
