Committee members received an update from the operations & governance subcommittee on the district's boundary realignment work. The consultant introduced an "initial scenario" (recharacterized as a draft) and said the plan will be iterative, with future drafts responding to public input and data.
The consultant (Nick) and superintendent said a tentative schedule would release revised drafts on Sept. 16 and Oct. 13, with additional public forums and community engagement between subcommittee meetings. The administration emphasized these are options, not recommendations, and that multiple scenarios will be available for consideration.
Members raised questions about program preservation (for Worcester Arts Magnet/WAMS), how future private and public housing developments would be counted, and legacy enrollment/transportation implications for families. The superintendent said no changes have been implemented to date and that the earliest possible implementation would be for the 2728 school year; logistics and least‑disruptive approaches will be part of any implementation plan.
The committee agreed to continue iterative drafts and community forums to gather input on feeder patterns, magnet placements and proportional lottery allocations for specialty programs.
