Sarah Denny, Miami County's Human Resources director, presented a plan on Sept. 2 to close nonemergency county offices Monday, Oct. 12, 2026, for an employee development day at the fairgrounds. Denny said the morning will include a First Amendment training prepared by Capt. Jeremy Campbell (Johnson County Sheriff's Office) and Capt. Adam Khan (Spring Hill Police Department), followed by a K-9 demonstration featuring K-9 Clay and Master Deputy Tom Yeast, a 'touch a truck' event, and an afternoon employee-assistance-program session with Accenture Health on work–life balance.
"So this afternoon or this morning, we're gonna discuss the employee development day in a request to close nonemergency offices on Monday, 10/12/2026," Denny said. She told commissioners the first training session will start at 9:00 a.m. and the fairgrounds activities are expected to conclude by about 2:15 p.m. Denny noted that emergency services such as EMS and the sheriff's office would remain in 24/7 operation and that department-specific training would follow in the afternoon.
Denny said she had invited commissioners and commissioner-elect candidates to attend parts of the morning training. She asked the commission to consider a resolution to formally close the offices and indicated she would return later in the day to present that resolution for signature.
No formal approval was recorded during the study session; the item was presented as a request and the commission was scheduled to sign a resolution later the same day.
