The Delaware City Civil Service Commission approved updates to the September 2026 police certified list, bringing the list to 24 candidates and recording two conditional offers.
Chief Moore said the list "adds 2 new candidates, removes 2 candidates that withdrew and accepted other employment elsewhere." He noted that "2 of the folks that are in that 24 have already been given conditional offers" and that those candidates are "due to start the Police Academy at the Delaware County Sheriff's Office, on December 9." He also said the department is continuing background investigations on several top candidates and hopes to reduce the number of openings from six.
Commissioners asked about training costs. Chief Moore said the State Highway Patrol Academy is preferred because "it is free," noting earlier legislative funding that channels casino gambling revenues toward law enforcement education; he added that other academies typically cost about $5,000–$6,000 and that recruits remain on payroll and receive benefits while training.
A motion to approve the September 2026 police certified list was made, seconded and approved by roll call.
