Director orders supplemental IT search after finding Success Academy's initial search insufficient

Ms. Carver told the panel she had asked Success Academy for records about a report that a supervisor touched her inappropriately and said the school first denied the request, then changed its position after she appealed. She argued the school's initial search was incomplete, did not target obvious custodians and omitted date ranges and hit counts. "That search didn't include Mister Hockley's records," the director observed when reviewing the declaration; the appellant said the principal acknowledged receiving the allegation.

Success Academy's counsel said the event began as a verbal report and that the school had searched records and provided the materials it had; the school agreed to rerun searches if the director ordered them. Director Pearson concluded the school failed to show it conducted a reasonable search and ordered a documented supplemental IT search that must include Hockley's account, the full Google suite (email, Drive, Sheets, Teams) and records from any outside investigator; the order requires the academy to report search terms used, custodians searched, hit counts and any responsive records found.
