Engineering staff recommended changing the committee's name from "Buildings and Grounds Committee" to the "Traffic and Parking Regulations Committee," noting that the committee's work primarily concerns parking, traffic regulations, signage and lighting rather than building maintenance. Staff presented three years of item counts showing 149 items with 112 related to parking (about 75%).
Members discussed the draft public-facing description; the Chair and others asked to remove the second sentence that used the mandatory word "shall" in reference to the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices because they preferred a less mandatory, public-facing description. The committee voted to recommend the name change and the revised description to council with that omission. "Traffic and parking regulations committee best entails the vast majority of things that we deal with," Darren said in presenting the recommendation.
The committee recorded unanimous assent to the recommendation in the meeting's voice vote.
