Commission staff and volunteers outlined plans for spring cleanups and the Springs tour tied to the city's Waukesha Unlocked event in October.
At the start of the meeting a resident raised concerns about the condition of Menisca Spring and offered to organize volunteers. Staff later reported that Tony (a volunteer leader) has a group available in early October and that the forestry and parks departments would help by clearing trees across paths and dropping wood chips for trails. Charlie said the group would focus primarily on Menisca and might also rake and clear Hobo Spring and address minor debris at Silurian and Acme springs.
Commissioners confirmed the Springs tour will take place Oct. 11 with three tours (10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m.); Marty and Carmen volunteered to help lead tours and staff asked for additional volunteers and suggested publicity through parks-and-rec channels.
"We do not have, what we've had in the past sometimes is, we will just put out a sign up request for anybody to come help out with the springs," Charlie said while describing the volunteer approach. Tony's group expected to be available either Oct. 5 or Oct. 7 to do preparatory work ahead of the Oct. 11 tour.
