Parks staff notified the Historic Preservation Board that the department is engaging a consultant to begin master planning for Cantrell School.
Staff member Brad said the scope will include at least two presentations to the Historic Preservation Board, three public/neighborhood meetings, and opportunities for HPB members to participate in design workshops. Brad said the master plan will help identify rehabilitation needs for the building and grounds and that future landmark-alteration certificate items could come to the board as the project advances.
Board members asked about scope and programming; staff said current programming is largely consistent with recent uses (art displays and public activations) and that unexpected rehabilitation costs have arisen. Staff described ongoing window and rhyolite masonry repairs and said the master plan aims to create a framework for phased rehabilitation and activation.
