The Yavapai County Board of Supervisors opened its Sept. 2 meeting by approving three proclamations recognizing Constitution Week and observances tied to public health and civic awareness. The board unanimously approved a proclamation designating Sept. 17'23, 2026 as Constitution Week and presented the proclamation to Jeanne Corrigan of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
County health officials and community partners appeared to accept the board's proclamation recognizing September as National Suicide Prevention Month. Leslie Horton, director of Community Health Services, joined Kelly Lee of MATForce and James Tobin from the county health team to highlight local prevention efforts and resources. "Unfortunately, in our county, we had a 20 percent increase in completed suicides last year," Tobin said, noting county and coalition efforts to expand intervention and outreach.
The board also recognized September as World Alzheimer's Month. County health staff described a Healthy Brain Initiative grant that funded professional development events on Sept. 11 in Cottonwood and Sept. 12 in Prescott, and encouraged residents and providers to participate in local awareness events. All three proclamations were approved by unanimous voice vote.
