Public health outlines clinic visit volumes, TB incidence and WIC reach amid funding pressures

Amy Cameron, representing Ramsey County Public Health, summarized five foundational public‑health measures and linked them to the county strategic priorities of resident‑centered supports and racial and health equity.

Cameron said clinical services included immunizations, a tuberculosis clinic and Clinic 555 family‑planning services; in 2025 the TB clinic saw 845 patients in roughly 7,402 visits (about nine visits per patient), and Ramsey County's TB incidence ranged from 5.2 to 7.4 per 100,000 during 2020–2025 — higher than state and national goals.

She noted over 70,000 clinical encounters occurred in correctional facilities in 2025 and that public health provides outreach (including a care van) to encampments and other settings. On maternal and child health, Cameron said roughly half of all infants born in Ramsey County receive WIC and that WIC participation during pregnancy is associated with better birth outcomes; WIC served roughly 17,500 participants a month in 2025 across six county clinics and community partnerships.

Cameron warned of constrained federal grant funding and stagnant awards that limit the department's ability to expand staff and services despite rising demand; she said the department will continue to pursue partnerships with culturally specific community organizations, neighboring counties and health providers to extend reach and sustain services.
