County engineer Nate gave commissioners a detailed update on three bridge projects. He said crews removed a portion of a mud wall at Bridge 142, replaced bearing pads, and plan hydro-demolition and an overlay to address scour on the deck; under the contract the contractor has 75 days to complete the work.
"They're gonna jack the bridge up and change out the bearing pads... then there'll be brand new approach slabs," Nate said, describing the sequence of repairs and a subsequent deck overlay. For another location (referred to as Bridal Well 5), Nate said concrete patches were poured and power washing will prepare the surface for an asphalt overlay, with a tentative opening target of Sept. 11, weather permitting.
Nate also described work on Bridge 58 involving sandblasting and application of a water-protection membrane to steel pilings and said inspections and follow-up scheduling were underway. He said one repair is a test case that could lead to similar projects if results meet expectations.
