Director Christopher Leggins gave council an update on Danville Public Library operations and projects, saying the library has expanded outreach and begun new services to meet resident needs. "One of our biggest developments has been the launch of our bookmobile service," he said, adding the library has hired two part‑time drivers and is building a regular route and partnerships with local groups.
Leggins described staffing and facility plans: reopening the teen space and returning it to its original first‑floor location, hiring a children's and teens librarian to expand programming, and renovating the main‑floor bathrooms and stairwell, including replacing carpet, repainting and updating handrails. He thanked the library foundation and named Natalie Duncan and Patrick Holleran for their support; the foundation "has committed hundreds of thousands of dollars" toward improvements, Leggins said.
Council members and residents responded with praise and follow‑up questions about fees and outreach. An alderman asked whether the library still charges certain nonresident fees; Leggins said the library offers payment plans and that free library cards are provided to qualifying students in District 118. A resident and former board member welcomed the teen‑space move and asked about the bookmobile schedule; Leggins said he would coordinate routes with aldermen so residents in each ward can see the vehicle and services.
