Isanti County commissioners approved a one-year renewal of the maintenance agreement for the county’s Viper 7 dispatch system, a tool that supplies caller location (latitude/longitude) and other data to 911 dispatch.
Chad Meyer presented the maintenance renewal request and described Viper 7’s role: "Viper 7, when a caller comes in, our call comes into dispatch, it gives us lat long location, information of the caller, and so forth, helps us pinpoint, more information when we're dispatching phone calls." Staff said the initial implementation included a multi-year maintenance term and the current action renews the maintenance agreement on a year-by-year basis. Commissioners discussed service responsiveness, market options and budget implications; a motion to approve a one-year extension carried.
The department noted that the previous three-year contract was part of the 2022 implementation and that ongoing maintenance costs are funded out of E9-1-1 funds in the current budget. Board members suggested periodic market checks to ensure competitive pricing.
Why it matters: Maintaining the county’s dispatch-location system supports emergency response and public safety by helping dispatchers locate callers quickly; the renewal preserves uninterrupted maintenance and on-call support for critical systems.
