The commission approved a request to accept a slightly different brick finish for a project at 230 South Pennsylvania Street after the applicant said the manufacturer would move production to a California plant that produces a close, but not identical, match.
"The manufacturer of the brick that was originally selected and approved ... determined that the shapes that we needed ... was going to be impossible for them to do" and that production would be moved to a newer California plant, Trent Heismother said on behalf of the petitioner. He explained the same company will make the brick and will supply a close match so construction will not be delayed.
Staff and commissioners confirmed that mortar color would not change and that a mock-up remains installed on-site for review. Commissioners also recorded the manufacturer's product name on the record: Yankee Hill Dark Iron Spot (Pacific Clay). After questions about mock-up access and visual similarity, a motion to approve the change was made, seconded and approved by the commission.
The applicant and staff were directed to work with the commission if any further adjustments are needed to ensure the completed façade is consistent with the approved appearance.
