The Beaufort County Board of Education voted to authorize the superintendent to finalize an agreement with Beaufort County for the purchase of four tracts totaling 1.202 acres from Ladies Island Middle School property to build a new entrance road.
Board materials included an appraisal dated July 23, 2026, with individual tract valuations: Tract 10 (0.03 acres) $19,800; Tract 11 (0.14 acres) $35,630; Tract 12 (0.02 acres) $5,678; and Tract 18 (1.1 acres) $172,450 — a total appraised value of $233,558. County staff clarified that temporary construction easements were being priced at 10% of land value for two‑year temporary use, not given gratis.
During discussion a county representative explained the basis for the temporary‑use calculation: "How they calculated the amount since it was temporary use was, yeah, 2 years and 10% of the value of the land for those 2 years," and a board member said that approach was appropriate given fiduciary responsibility to the public. The board then moved and approved the superintendent finalizing the agreement for the stated amount.
Why it matters: The transferred parcels will create a dedicated entrance roadway for Ladies Island Middle School. The appraisal values and the board vote document the district's financial consideration for the property transfer.
