The Beaufort County School District voted to adopt the Lowcountry Virtual High School health course on Sept. 1 after the Academic Committee and the district's Health Advisory Council reviewed the curriculum.
Presenter Dr. Stratos told the board the course was developed to meet high‑school health requirements and has been vetted by content specialists and the Health Advisory Council. "This virtual course was developed to be provided for students for the health requirement," the presenter said during the briefing. The course overview noted two modules on reproduction and health, 26 lessons in the modules, and materials used to meet notification requirements such as parental letters required by Aaron's and Gavin's Law.
The Academic Committee moved the recommendation to the full board and the board approved the adoption by voice vote.
Why it matters: The district will now offer the online health credit as an approved option to satisfy health requirements; materials and parental notification steps are part of the adoption package and will be used in rollout.
