At the second public comment period, speakers raised concerns about proposed school rezoning and shared community updates.
Pam Wise, a Rose Hill resident and parent, asked the board to reconsider any rezoning plan that would remove more than 200 students from Okeetee and to protect continuity for special education students. "I'm asking you to reconsider any rezoning plan that would remove more than 200 students from Okeechee while leaving the school well below the district's desired capacity," Wise said, noting the importance of grandfathering current students and prioritizing Beaufort County residents in enrollment decisions. She asked the board to explain how interdistrict enrollment and school choice would be handled if rezoning creates open seats.
Earlier, James Miller used his comment time to congratulate band programs and invite the board and community to an all‑county band showcase on Sept. 12 at Buford High School; he also noted recent competitive appearances and encouraged board attendance.
Why it matters: Rezoning proposals can significantly disrupt students' school assignments and have outsized impacts on special education students and family routines. Public comment flags concern about transparency and sequencing if rezoning is advanced.
