Organizers of the HSS Greenwich half-marathon told the board on Aug. 27 that they had conducted door-to-door outreach and prepared a traffic-advisory plan designed to minimize disruption. The board approved the temporary restriction for Sept. 27.
Chris Dawson, representing the organizers, said he and his team had handed out course maps to businesses and residents and planned signage and a possible reverse-911 notice for the Old Greenwich ZIP code. John Bysiewicz, the race director, said the organization expects a majority of participants and volunteers to be local and that proceeds will support Greenwich nonprofits, including Greenwich Park & Rec and school athletic programs.
Organizers described operational measures: roughly 150 volunteers on course, coordinated traffic support with upwards of 17 off-duty police, and dedicated medical/EMS staging so emergency vehicles have priority and access during the event. The board asked about worst-case scenarios (medical emergencies, driveway access); organizers and Parks & Rec explained procedures for emergency access and volunteer/EMS staging and said theyd design the course to limit full closures and to keep traffic moving in the opposite direction to provide alternative travel.
Lauren Raven moved to approve the traffic restriction request for the HSS Greenwich half-marathon on Sept. 27; Rachel Conn seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
