City staff presented a comprehensive development update that cataloged residential, commercial and industrial projects active in Buda and summarized permitting and near‑term construction milestones.
Staff said five residential developments — Persimmon, Colony at Coal Springs, Portrait of Dupree, CaliKate and the Reserve at Cole Springs — together account for about 3,253 new residential units in progress (preliminary plats, issued permits, and homes under construction were detailed by project). Persimmon was described as a multi‑phase project with 2,300 homes in total; staff said phase‑by‑phase permitting and site work are under way with dozens of individual home permits and COs already issued.
On the commercial side, staff noted activity at the train depot in downtown Buda, ongoing grading for the H‑E‑B site (permit pending), and renovation/expansion at Leaf Johnson Ford. Industrial projects include a large Buda Gateway development (about 480,000 square feet across multiple buildings) and other warehouse campuses along South Loop 4. Staff also highlighted a GIS development viewer maintained by the city to track project status publicly.
Council members praised the presentation and the GIS tool and asked follow‑up questions about timelines for specific road and connector projects. Staff said certain TxDOT permits remain pending (noted for the finished connector work), and that they will continue to engage developers on right‑of‑way and phased infrastructure obligations.
