The board adopted a resolution recognizing September as National Food Safety Education Month and heard a presentation from the Environmental Health Division. Trey Strickland, the county's environmental health manager, said the unit's consumer protection team conducts regular inspections and investigates foodborne illness complaints, and that this September staff will run focused inspections to assess food temperature and cooling practices.
Connie Howard, consumer protection supervisor, said the campaign rewards facilities using good food‑safety practices and educates those that need to improve management practices. "This campaign is our way of taking a preventative approach to food safety by rewarding our facilities that apply good food safety practices and educating the facilities that need to improve," Howard said.
