As part of the Shores of Oneka Lake North proposal, the developer proposed dedicating a 5.47-acre park and paying a partial parkland fee of $1.6 million to satisfy the city's park-dedication ordinance. City staff explained the ordinance requires dedication equal to 11% of developable acreage (about 16.63 acres for this project) or a fee in lieu; the applicant offered the smaller park plus the fee amount worked out with the city's parks planner and the Parks Commission recommended the approach at its August 19 meeting.
Staff and the applicant also said the developer plans active park amenities and a pavilion, and that the parks commission unanimously recommended approval of the park dedication arrangement. Final park-site plans and additional landscaping details will come back to the Parks Commission and City Council as the project advances.
