Amy Haskins, director of Wayne County’s Aging and Youth Department, told the Human Services Committee on Aug. 31 that the department issued multiple RFPs over the summer. She said one response was received for a personal emergency response system (PERS) RFP while no responses came in for the Aide Service RFP; the department may reissue the Aide Service solicitation. Haskins said the department hired a new Principal Account Clerk and is planning two Medicare Insurance Fairs in October (Palmyra and Wolcott) and a Caregiver Appreciation event in November. She added that a state representative will be on-site in October for monitoring and that the RTS pilot transportation program has begun.
Kelly Beaudette, deputy director for Aging and Youth, provided youth-specific updates: the Youth Department received one new referral for a runaway/homeless youth this month; staff applied for a $5,000 grant through Jefferson County CCE and the NYS Parent Partnership to support Parent Cafés; Youth Day at Alasa Farm drew 19 youth; Sodus Point Beach closed for the season without violations; and the department will hold a professional development day Oct. 9 and a Youth Advisory Board meeting Sept. 29. The committee voted to approve two transmittals related to youth funding — Authorization to Award Youth Sports and Education Opportunities Funding and Authorization to Award Youth Development Funding — both recorded as approved 5-0.
