At the Sept. 1 meeting, Police Chief Cole and Fire Chief Flynnbacher gave their monthly operational reports for August.
Chief Cole said the department logged 2,041 calls for service in August, an increase of 363 from the previous year, and described 15 reportable incidents that included two assaults, four drug-related incidents and four DWIs. "There's 2,041 (calls for service). That's an increase of 363 compared to last year," Cole said. He reported 12 criminal arrests for roughly 40 charges, 182 traffic stops, 41 written citations and 112 warnings; he also noted a police vehicle is sidelined pending repair after a crash.
Fire Chief Flynnbacher reported 73 calls for August: three fires (trash, vegetation, vehicle), four hazardous conditions including an accident and gas leak, and 34 medical responses. Council members commended first responders after a resident recounted a heat-stroke event where firefighters arrived quickly. Council highlighted the value of inspections and the fire-marshall's pre-planning work for a pending renovation.
Council had brief questions about ordinance citations and school resource activity; no formal policy changes were proposed during the reports.
