Trustees at a special Flatonia ISD meeting voted to adopt the district's 2026–27 budget as presented.
Robin, a district staff member, summarized the proposal and told trustees, "It's up $753,000, which is a 3.51% increase over last year." She detailed key drivers including a one-time bus purchase that reduced transportation costs, a new full-time athletic trainer that raised athletics spending by roughly $60,000, and an $85,000 increase in the district's cooperative share related to employee pay adjustments. She also explained refinancing savings on debt service reduced this year's interest burden but will create a larger principal payment next year.
Chair put the motion, noting it was "made by Dan, seconded by Jessica," and called for the vote; Robin verbally registered "Aye" and the Chair declared the motion passed. The staff presentation noted projected revenue near $10.6 million and cautioned the absence of a solar-farm payment this year will tighten finances, but that the proposed budget as adopted is not a deficit.
The budget adoption authorizes the district to proceed with the programs and staffing levels outlined in the proposal and frames the board's fiscal approach for the coming year. Trustees then moved on to a separate resolution to set the district's tax rate.
