Renee Strafford and colleagues outlined the strategic plan's family and community partnerships priority and described concrete tools the district will use to connect with families.
"PGCPS is really looking at how to provide guidance and to help our families be able to create and navigate parent view so that way they are able to monitor the academic progress of their children," Strafford said, identifying ParentVUE (Parent View) as a key two‑way communication tool. She said the district will produce toolkits for schools and parents and a dedicated ParentVUE training session on September 10.
Strafford also described a new attendance‑ambassador model to support students with chronic absenteeism and said the district will expand multichannel, multilingual communication so families can receive and respond to information in the language they prefer. Staff noted that materials and reports are available in English, Spanish and French and that a Department of Language Translation supports those efforts.
Why this matters: The strategies aim to make district information and supports more accessible to families and to reduce barriers that can contribute to missed instructional time. Officials encouraged parents to use ParentVUE and attend district tutorials and workshops.
Next steps: Staff said ParentVUE tutorial sessions and toolkits will be posted and an upcoming workshop will teach families how to register and use the system.
