Resident warns Haldeman Road gate is endangering students; superintendent says district is coordinating with township

Scott Swindells, speaking as a Lower Salford resident, commended improvements in recent committee meetings and thanked the district for providing redline policy drafts to the public. He pressed the board on the Haldeman Road gate issue, citing a July transportation impact study by Benchmark Civil Engineering Services that he said was made public through a Right-to-Know request to Franconia Township.

"The gate issue drags on though, and it's endangering students, parents, and community," Swindells said, asking the board to listen to the community and act to address a single entrance/exit that he said leaves the high school vulnerable for much of the day.

Superintendent Dr. Hay responded that the district commissioned the study, submitted the engineer's draft to the township, and is scheduled to appear at the township's September planning commission meeting; he said the township agreed to allow the gate to remain open in the mornings and afternoons (except for large events) while the district works through land-development requirements. Dr. Hay emphasized ongoing dialogue with the township and that the district is "committed to working through that land development process" before deciding on any permanent changes.

Swindells said he appreciated the clarification and urged the board to keep the matter moving.
