Leanna Rangai, theater teacher at Southside High School, said the school will present the musical adaptation of The Addams Family from Oct. 15 through Oct. 20 and described strong student interest.
"In October, we are doing the musical adaptation of The Addams Family," Rangai said, calling the show "a very, very fun show" and noting characters students know such as Gomez, Morticia and Wednesday. She said the production follows last year’s Mamma Mia and represents the program's second consecutive musical.
Rangai said the program is scaling up with Ricky Reid serving as vocal director and, for the first time, an outside choreographer from local community theaters helping with dance. She described theater as an accessible option for students who may not have had previous experience and said many students make their high-school stage debut in her productions.
Southside’s production schedule runs Oct. 15–20. Rangai encouraged parents to let students try theater, saying it helps students grow in confidence and public speaking even if they lack prior experience.
