SAU staff presented summer-program participation and recommended exploring rotating extended-school-year (ESY) and enrichment program sites to improve access. The report showed variable attendance: Freedom had 3 students listed for ESY with 2 attending, Madison listed 14 with 10 attending, and Tamworth listed 18 with 8 attending. Staff and board members discussed whether moving ESY or enrichment to different buildings would increase participation.
An enrichment program presenter described Madison's model: "Our enrichment program is open to all students K through 6 in our school... ESY happens at the same time. So the students that are there for their ESY services are embedded into our enrichment program, and then they get pulled out for their services." Board members flagged staffing and transportation as barriers and asked staff to gather historical participation data and explore rotating buildings and remote-service options for specific therapies.
