The fiscal court approved procurement actions aimed at winter readiness: a $74,000 determination to Indiana Salt Supply for 400 tons of Clear Lane treated de‑icer and authorization to lease up to four 2027 International MV607 dump trucks at up to $3,300 per month each for 72 months.
Road Department staff told the court they had difficulty getting salt bids after last winter and had secured 400 tons of treated product as part of a broader stock. "We probably could use between 750 and 1000 tons a year, 800 tons a year," the road presenter said when asked about prior usage in winter seasons. Staff estimated the treated product runs about $10–$20 a ton more than rock salt but offers quicker melting in cold temperatures.
On the trucks, staff explained supply constraints and an estimated 12–18 month production window once orders are started; the up‑fitting of beds and equipment could add months. The court instructed staff to pursue two trucks immediately if available and authorized up to four as a not‑to‑exceed ceiling to ensure availability and continuity of operations.
Motions to approve the salt purchase and truck lease were made and received roll‑call approval. County officials said purchases will position the Road Department to respond to severe winter events and noted some purchases will be offset by existing reserve supplies.
