Chamblee staff and commissioners outlined final preparations for Chalkwalk during the Aug. 27 Public Arts Commission meeting, asking volunteers and commissioners to bolster outreach and on-the-ground operations.
"We have 67 booths. 52 of those are artist vendors, 13 nonprofits, and 2 buskers," Tanisha, the staff lead on Chalkwalk, said, outlining vendor and volunteer counts and noting the commission is still accepting busker applications. She described two community art projects — a student-focused piece and another booth-centered project that includes voter-registration outreach — plus a free face painter and plans to trial three food trucks this year. Commissioners volunteered help creating social-media graphics and an event one-pager for vendors to help with day-of promotion.
Organizers also discussed refining the load-in plan to reduce congestion and using walkie-talkies and staff shirts (lime green this year) to make volunteers visible. Jeremy offered logistical support and equipment such as flags and vests for volunteer flow control. The commission encouraged members to repost Chalkwalk promotion and to recruit competition-square participants, noting signups were lower this year than in the past.
