Bernalillo County announced the opening of "My World, My Lens," a youth photography exhibit featuring children participating in the county's Family Wellness Hotel Program. A Bernalillo County staff member said the exhibit “showcase[s] a glimpse into the lives of children navigating housing insecurity” and invited the public to view the work at Alvarado Square through Dec. 1.
Participants described hands-on experiences in the program and what they captured on film. One meeting participant said, “Shooting film is a little more interesting and you don't know what you're gonna how your pictures are gonna come out at 1st,” and described choosing nature subjects and flowers. Another participant said, “My favorite part about the photography program was how I got to take pictures of cool things and how it was just a fun time to do.” The staff member added that, after the run ends, the exhibit will be moved to a permanent location that has not yet been determined.
The announcement frames the exhibit as an arts and outreach effort tied to Bernalillo County's Family Wellness Hotel Program, which supports children and families experiencing housing instability. Organizers did not specify the permanent location or additional touring dates during the announcement; the county encouraged visitors to see the exhibit at Alvarado Square before Dec. 1.
